QA engineering Intern at Avtec Inc.

Over the summer, I have been interning at Avtec Inc in Lexington SC. Avtec is a software engineering company specializing in consoles for dispatch and communication. They provide equipment, services and develop software for numerous companies and industries including but not limited to railroad, airline, energy and emergency services. Avtec has been established for 30 years and growing rapidly, I work in a relatively new campus that they had just moved into.
I work in QA(quality assurance) within the engineering department and my official title is QA engineering intern. Avtec uses the agile method of software development which is relatively new for the company. Agile software development is incremental and iterative and in my opinion and interesting a fast way to put of a finished product. My job includes working closely with developers to define given tasks and test the finished product. During my time here, we have been working on a new 4.1 release of our dispatch software. This is a three month process that I was here to see that start of and hopefully will see it become a part of our outgoing product soon.
Like all software development, this is team based and I was assigned to the Prometheus team. Our team is responsible for the interface and other basic functionality of the product. I was also assigned to work on automation and testing code which is the most interesting part of the job for me. As an intern, I am assigned a mentor in my team who guided and trained me on the systems here. Many of the employees here are graduates from USC and a some from Clemson( something we look the other way to).
My experience so far has been awesome and very rewarding. As my first technical job I have learned a lot about the industry. I have been able to network and work with USC CSCE alumi and people who have had years of experience in this field. Overall, I have had a very productive and good experience and am glad I was able to have this opportunity.
