Intern for Accenture Duck Creek

This summer I am interning for Accenture Duck Creek in Columbia, SC. Duck Creek Technologies has been developing insurance based software for around 15 years and was acquired by Accenture in August of 2011. Duck Creek creates configurable insurance software that they then sell to various insurance providers. These insurance providers are able to utilize these tools and create their own customized software. Accenture is a global company that has over 300,00 employees and operates in 120 countries. On my team specifically, we have people in Columbia, in Boliver, Missouri, in Murray Hills, New Jersey, and in Mumbai, India. All my previous work experience being for smaller companies of maybe twenty or so employees, getting the opportunity to see how a huge company operates has given me a valuable and completely different perspective.
Duck Creek’s suite of software includes industry-leading applications for policy administration, claims, and billing, which are the three essential operations required by Property and Casualty insurance carriers. The team I am working on is called the FOAPI team, and I’ll be working on a web API that will be a part of their claims system. After about a week and half of training and learning how the company operates, I have been mostly been developing software. More specifically I will be working on a mobile quoting application for people to report their losses.
So far my time at Duck Creek has been extremely rewarding and I’m excited to see how the rest of the summer plays out.
