BCF Operations Intern at INVISTA

CamdenSitePicture.gif

This summer I am interning at the INVISTA plant in Camden as a BCF Operations Intern. Originally a division of DuPont, INVISTA is now a subsidiary of Koch Industries that focuses on the creation of different fibers and fabrics. Two popular flooring products that we create is STAINMASTER Carpet as well as Antron fiber. Specifically at the Camden plant, we create nylon that is spun on to tubes and then used in other applications. The area I work in, BCF, is responsible for the final part of the process here, spinning. On a daily basis I work with the leadership in the BCF area to develop plans that help improve 3 major areas: cost, yield, and culture. We improve these areas by first meeting with different groups to

pinpoint problems, develop projects that form a solution to the problem, and then oversee the implementation of the project/plan developed. One of the projects I’m currently in charge of is a multi-million dollar project that is focusing on improving the quality of the waste that we sell. Overall it’s a really fun internship. As far as length and time off, INVISTA is really flexible, and on top of that, I get to meet a lot of different people and get some good experience with actually making real change in the plant.
