Production Intern at JTEKT Automotive

I am interning at JTEKT Automotive in Piedmont, South Carolina. This particular JTEKT plant manufactures damper pulleys and intelligent torque control couplings. These products are sold to GM, Chrysler, Ford, Toyota and others. I am the only intern here and my title is Production Engineering Intern. I work mostly with the production engineers and little with the IT department. The project I am currently working on is connecting the PLC’s (Programmable Logic Controllers) in the plant to the local network and creating a user interface that includes a data collection tie-in. So far I have made great strides towards completing this project and I even gave a presentation about this project to the heads of a few departments. I work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, every week until the first week in August. My day to day activities vary from managing data on my computer to running cables between Ethernet cables and PLC’s to sitting in on various meetings. The production engineers are friendly and energetic and have made me feel welcome. I am very excited to be interning with JTEKT Automotive and I know the experience that I am gaining here this summer will help me further my career in the future.
