This summer I am working for Boeing in Charleston, South Carolina, specifically in the IT department. My team is the ITI EUIS, which stands for information technology infrastructure - end user infrastructure that is responsible for the back end applications that help users within Boeing do their job on a daily basis. We try to make sure that the things we do will not make anyone lives’ more difficult, in fact we want to make our technology flow into the Boeing system as easiest as possible. We also deal with any major changes that the IT infrastructure must undergo whether it is huge data transfers or upgrades, and much more.

The internship program at Boeing is very large. I believe there are about one hundred interns from all over the world just in Charleston. (Yes, some from different continents) I work in an office with seven other interns sitting right next to me, but about six others spread through the same area. There are intern events which Boeing hosts that give the interns a chance to network and mingle with not only each other but also with higher executives and managers.

The nicest thing about this internship is the experience it has given me in general. This includes

the people I’ve met, the work I’ve done, and even living in Charleston. I’ve grown close with many of the interns I work with; we even plan on visiting each other after the internship is over. The work I am doing is not just something to put on my resume but it is actual real work experience that I am learning which will help me improve my exposure to the IT world. And one of the best things about this is living and just hanging out in Charleston. When I first came here this summer, it was my first time in Charleston since I am from New Jersey/New York area. I could not of imagined the culture and atmosphere which exists here. Overall it has been a great experience and maybe I will have the chance to come back here again next summer.
